Netflix Looking Increase Original Anime Productions

Netflix are looking to increase it’s original Anime content output, signing 4 new deals with animation studios in Japan and Korea.

The news was first released on twitter via @NxonNetflix account.


Netflix have signed a deals with Naz, Science Saru and Mappa in Japan as well as Studio Mir in Korea.

Naz are best known for their Anime Series My First Girlfriend is a Gal, ID: Invaded and Infinite Dendrogram.

Science Saru is best known for their work on Netflix originals Devilman: Cry Baby (2018) and Japan Sinks 2020 (2020).

Mappa is likely to be most well known of the Japanese Studios, producing Anime series such as the Netflix Originals Kakegurui and Dorohedro as well hit series such as Zombie Land Saga and Yuri on Ice, the studio also took over production for Attack On Titan Season 4.

The Korean Studio Mir has worked with alongside American Companies helping to produce series such as The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks and Young Justice: Outsiders as well as The Netflix Original Voltron: Legendary Defender.

The Deals signed are not exclusive meaning the Studios are still free to work on their own productions or work with other companies such as Cruchyroll. Netflix already have partnership deals with other Japanese Anime studio’s such as Production IG, Studio Bones and Sublimination as well as American studio Frederator Studios who produced Castlevaina.

Netflix’s Anime Chief Producer Taiki Sakurai had this to say on the new deals;

With these additional partnerships with industry trailblazers who do amazing work, often marrying the latest technologies and traditional hand-drawn animation, we’re excited to bring fans a greater variety of even more amazing stories,
