Demon Slayer Tops Japan's Top Selling Manga for 2020, with 82,345,447 copies sold.
Orican have revealed that this years top selling Manga was Demon Slayer which absolutely smashed the competition, having sold ten times that of the 2nd best selling Manga. One Piece has been long established as the top selling Manga for the last ten years but Demon Slayer would be the first Manga to put an end to that run. In 2020 Demon Slayer Smashed all previous records blowing the wannabe pirate king out of the water as One Piece finished 3rd behind Kingdom and Demon Slayer.
The top 5 a listed below along with their sale figures;
1. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (82,345,447 copies)
2. Kingdom (8,251,058 copies)
3. One Piece (7,709,667 copies)
4. Haikyu!! (7,212,099 copies)
5. JUJUTSU KAISEN (6,702,736 copies)
In the top 25 best selling Manga Volumes for 2020 all 22 volumes of the series currently available took the top 22 places, with One Piece volumes 96, 97 and 98 taking the 23rd, 24th, and 25th places respectively. The final Volume of Demon Slayer is due for release on the 1st of December just in time for Christmas.
The surge in popularity of the Manga, that has been available since 2016, was the release of the Demon slayer Anime series from Sony and Ubisoft which received critical acclaim due to is fantastic animation, the Series also won several awards at the 2020 Cruchyroll Anime Awards.
Most recently The Demon Slayer movie, Mugen Train has been breaking Japanese box office records, including best opening night/weekend, fastest Movie to pass the $10 million mark and has recently overtaken the Titanic to become the 2nd highest grossing film of all time in Japan. Even more impressive is that this has all been achieved during a global pandemic, where cinema’s have had to exercise strict social distancing measures meaning many were operating between a 1/3 to 1/2 capacity.
